The silk produced in Rajshahi, the northern division of Bangladesh has owned hearts of the fashion aficionado around the world. Though China, the birthplace of silk still rules the international market, the finesse and affordability of the silk of Rajshahi have made it popular among the fashion houses in various countries of Europe.

The quality and environment-friendly method of manufacturing of Rajshahi silk have added extra repute in its journey in the world of exported products. Even in the 90s, the production was adequate however the days have changed. Due to the gross mismanagement in the state-owned manufacturing plant namely the Rajshahi Silk factory, the production facility was no longer able to produce silk for many years.

Seeing the opportunity in the market, few privately-owned factories have come forward. While their contribution to the industry is praiseworthy, they certainly couldn’t live up to the expectations when it comes to mitigating the total demand in the market.

The quality and environment- friendly method of manufacturing of Rajshahi silk have added extra repute in its journey in the world of exported products.

Silk manufacturing requires an extra set of skills among the workers as well as sheer meticulousness; which is why not everyone can try to produce silk.

However, the good news is the Rajshahi Silk Factory has been opened recently and started production in a limited capacity. They are planning to enhance the production capacity by engaging all the available machines. The photo essay depicts the various stages of silk productions.
